Characteristics: Showy milkweed is stunning in bloom with it’s clusters of pink to rose colored flowers that are 4 to 5 inches across. Very attractive to butterflies. This species is a host to the monarch butterfly. Plants grow to 3 feet tall, rhizomatous and spreading. As with other milkweeds is reported to be deer resistant.
Cultivation: Prefers full sun and a moist soil. This species tolerates clay soils.
Native Range: East coast to Rocky Mountain Region. Found in southern Idaho.
