Characteristics: Showy milkweed is stunning in bloom with it’s clusters of pinkish flowers that are 4 to 5 inches across. Very attractive to butterflies, this species is a host to the monarch butterfly. Flowers will also attract hummingbirds. Plants grow to 3 feet tall and are rhizomatous and spreading. Due to its rhizomatous habit it may not be suitable for a small garden.
Cultivation: Showy Milkweed prefers full sun and is very drought tolerant once established. Plants tolerate a wide range of soil types.
