Characteristics: This showy perennial member of the Sunflower family features abundant large yellow flowers. Arrowleaf Balsamroot is one of the more common wildflowers in our region. It is not easy to grow due to its deep woody taproot, which makes it extremely difficult both to transplant as well as adapt to container growing. Nonetheless it is a prized species throughout the region for its beautiful spring floral displays. It is also a very beneficial species for the areas bumblebees. Plants grow to a height to 2 feet.
Cultivation: Grows in full sun, drought tolerant. Do not try to transplant established plants due to the deep taproots that this species possesses. This species prefers deep gravelly soils.
Native Range: Western United States.
