Characteristics: Wyoming Paintbrush is the State Flower of Wyoming. This is a long blooming perennial with showy scarlet flowers appearing from late spring to late summer. Height approximately 2 feet.
Cultivation: All Castilleja species are hemiparasites, their roots attaching to roots of neighboring grasses or forbs. For this reason it is not wise to dig them in the wild and transplant them. Plants are propagated from seed and grown with a companion plant. Wyoming Paintbrush prefers full sun and a well drained soil.
Native Range: This species is found throughout most of the west, often found at lower elevations than other paintbrush species.
Landscape Uses: Perennial garden, butterfly garden, hummingbird garden. Grow with companion plants such as grasses, asters, penstemons or other host species
