Characteristics: This is a very popular species for which there are a large number of cultivars for the gardener. The plants we sell are the native form. Purple coneflower is prized for its large pink to purple daisy shaped flowers. Purple Coneflower is a great flower for attracting both butterflies and hummingbirds. Plants may grow to a height of 3 feet.
Cultivation: Prefers full sun and moderate moisture. Deadheading will reduce spread via seeds as this species can be a heavy seeder, but if you enjoy watching birds in winter you might leave the seedheads intact for songbirds to collect.
